Interesting! Though the second article indicates that he was a member of the Greek Orthodox faith, so evidently Sirhan Sirhan was never a JW, and Bishara (if he ever was one) must have converted later in life. It also noted that Bishara Sirhan was chain smoking cigarettes during the interview.

Will Rudd learn from the lesson of Brown?
by slimboyfat inisn't australian politics fascinating?
having toppled the woman who first toppled him, prime minister rudd now faces the choice of calling an election sooner or later.
it was a similar choice that faced gordon brown in the uk when he replaced tony blair in 2007. gordon brown was remarkably popular at the time, a brief popularity that came out of nowhere and that equally disappeared never to return.

So why did Gillard go? Labour wanted her gone because they were toast at the polls, or was it more or a power play by Rudd? Both? I'm just thinking if Gillard wasn't sustainable, Rudd was/is an ass, wasn't there anyone else in the party who could effectively re-brand them?
It was refreshing to have a female athiest with a live-in partner running such a large democracy.

Going round and throwing out the 'racist' label to someone from South Africa now is like going to Germany in the mid-sixties and throwing the 'Nazi' insult about. She has a right to criticise her government's economic and employment policies all she wishes. That's what the new South Africa is all about - freedom for all.

I have heard from ex-Bethelites on this forum who were there in the 70's that Knorr had a thing against anything denim and would go off on someone if he saw it. He did this without discretion. A Bethelite could be headed for a BBQ at the weekend and this still was inapropriate for him.
This is likely inherited from that era. Just like beards are still looked down upon because Rutherford was clean-shaven and he saw them as a homage to Russell.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts
Some brighteyed and crazy, some frightened and lost
By the cold and religious, we were taken in hand
Shown how to feel good, and told to feel bad
Tongue tied and terrified, we learnt how to pray
Now our feelings run deep, and cold as the clay
And strung out behind us the banners and flags
Of our possible pasts lie in tatters and rags
[OK I didn't write this, but I wish I did]

Pish, the Mel Gibson epic was the authoritative source on the story of William Wallace. All other nonsense is a conspiracy of the Jews.

Ex-Apostate experiences?
by zound inexpanding on a point someone made in another thread:.
just wondering if anyone ever heard any experiences at assemblies or khalls of apostates that went back to become an upstanding jw.
or even just experiences related amongst jw's.

In the Walsh Case, F.W. Franz spoke about sin against the flesh vis-à-vis sin against the holy spirit. Whereas you can repent and be forgiven for sin against the flesh (which would include immorality, greed, and other things due to the imperfect nature of the flesh), you can never be forgiven for sins against the holy spirit. Presumably that would include apostacy. I would say that it would depend on the level of the apostacy involved. If you got DFed for believing in other doctrines and later recanted your views, you might have a path back. But if you disseminated your 'apostate' views via mediums such as books or online media, you possibly have 'deceived' many and you carry the bloodguilt of them listening to you, falling away from the JW's, and are ultimately responsible for their deaths.

Local Needs Talk: Brothers must repair dents and scratches on their vehicles...
by Calebs Airplane inso about 8 years ago, we had a local needs talk about dents an scratches !!!!
it was given by the cobe and this guy was just your normal everyday elder.
except he had his occasional pet peeves... like (you guessed it) dents and scratches on some of the brothers' vehicles.

Local needs are often dictated by the personal preferences and idiosyncracies of the elder giving them. One such elder had a huge problem with seating, as he had issues with seeing gaps in the audience and people spread out. He would begin his talk by remarking about how distracting it was for him to see such a scattered audience. Then he would insist on all children, no matter how old they were, to be seated with their parents. I was 15 and sitting with a friend when I was called out by name and told that I needed to be seated with my mother.
